Welcome to the website of composer and music producer Philipe Zenz!

Here you’ll find some information on me and my works. You can also download my two music albums, The Tower and The Surface, from this site and find some details about them. More music and my latest tracks can be found on SoundCloud.

If you’re making music as well, you may be interested in the audio plugin section where you can download a free VST-effect programmed by myself.

Artist

My passion for music began at the age of six when I started to play the piano. Besides practice, I always improvised and tried things out and also invented some early melodies and piano pieces. That is how I eventually got into composition.
Later, I wrote a lot of music for (sampled, virtual) orchestra. Some of these compositions can still be found on SoundCloud. I also wrote music for short-films. Since 2014, under the name of AVEV, I’m writing music for film and other media together with three fellow musicians.
In 2015, I started to compose and produce electronic music in my own experimental style, putting the orchestra, synths and samples and lots of FX together. My first album The Tower was released in January 2016, my second album The Surface followed in February 2017.

The Tower (2016)

The basic idea for The Tower was born in early 2015 as I got more familiar with electronic sound synthesis and the usage of synthesizers. The album however features rather a fusion of different musical elements, vocals, guitars, synths, orchestral sounds, atmospheric sounds… People often ask me which genre The Tower is. A question I cannot really answer. Many people said, it sounds like film-music. I’m not sure… it’s experimental
The Tower is thought as concept album with an underlying narration. During the process of creation, that narration became quite conceptional and figurative however. There is no definite explanation for the music. Things depend on imagination and contemplation.

The Tower is available to listen on Soundcloud.

The Surface (2017)

On the one hand, The Surface may be seen as continuation of The Tower. I feel that there is some kind of connection – ideas and conceptions that possibly influenced The Tower were still in my mind when I was working on The Surface in the first half of 2016. On the other hand, The Surface is somehow closer to the music I did before. A number of melodies heard in the album derive from musical ideas of my earlier life, a few of them come under the first melodies I created.
The order of the tracks is part of the concept, even though I’d not necessarily say that there is a story behind The Surface. The more I compose, the more I realize that to me, creating music is also a way of self-reflection. Words that are told in The Surface therefore can be understood as approaches, descriptions, ideas and connotations, but should not be taken for a message or declaration.

Audio Plugins

Here you can find the VST effect plugin Random Chopper programmed by myself. I’m not a programmer in the first place however and do not regularly work on audio effects. That’s why there is currently just one plugin, more may come in future. If you’re interested in how to create VST plugins without extensive programming skills, check out this tutorial. It helped me a lot.

Random Chopper

It’s a chopper plugin that allows you to randomize the speed parameter and thus to cut of a sound randomly. There are three chopper modules that may be combined. Just try it out. It’s freeware!
